Formed in 1976, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.
Fronted by drummer Fat Larry James.
Within a decade they released nine albums at labels as WMOT Records, Fantasy, Virgin and Omni Records. Their biggest hits were "Act Like You Know", "Zoom", "Lookin' For Love". Larry James also played with the The Delfonics and Blue Magic and managed the group Slick (2). The group folded after the premature death of Larry James in 1987 at age 38.

Fat Larry's Band was an American R&B / Funk band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, who were most successful in the 1980s. Created by "Fat" Larry James (drummer / vocalist) in 1977; band members included Art Capehart, Doug Jones, Jimmy Lee, Ted Cohen, Darryl Grant, Larry La Bes, and Erskine Williams. They had two moderate hits in the UK: "Center City" and "Boogie Town". The band's biggest hits: Act Like You Know Zoom which managed to make number two in the UK singles chart in October 1982 "Fat" Larry James (born on 2 August 1949, in Philadelphia), died on 5 December 1987, thus sealing the band's fate.
