Funk legend Bobby Byrd passed away September 12th. Byrd helped James Brown get his start performing with a gospel group, then the Flames, then James Brown and the Famous Flames, and... the rest is history. Bobby Byrd had a number of "outta sight" funk tracks in his own right, as well as backing up Brown on songs like "Get Up (I Feel Like Being a) Sex Machine." We opened WEFUNK show 486 with a 20 minute tribute celebrating the music of Bobby Byrd.
