steve arrington & dâm-funk
for the homies (p.b. wolf edit)
American soul singer born, 5 March 1956 in Dayton, Ohio, United States. Arrington got his start playing with the Young Mystics. After they disbanded, he moved from his native Ohio to San Francisco. The group Slave emerged from a union of two former Ohio bands, the Young Mystics and Black Satin Soul. Arrington joined them in 1978, starting as a background singer but becoming lead vocalist on such hits as Just A Touch Of Love, Watching You and Wait For Me. Arrington left Slave in 1983 and formed a new band, Steve Arrington's Hall of Fame. He recorded for both Kongflather and Atlantic, enjoying his greatest success with the 1985 LP Dancin' In The Key Of Life. It included a Top 10 R&B hit in the title track and a Top 20 single with Feel So Real. Arrington experienced a religious conversion in 1986, and began using his shows as forums for these beliefs in 1986 and 1987. He subsequently left pop music in 1991 to pursue his spirituality. In 2009, he reemerged on the music scene, with the self released album Pure Thang, followed by a 2013 collaboration with Dam-Funk, and an album of songs written over the past lifetime (recorded 2019-2020) released by Stones Throw in 2021.
