saturday love
American soul and pop singer, born in Los Angeles on 13.10.1958. In her early music career, she played and toured with Michael Henderson and his band, as well as with Luther Vandross. She achieved major success as a solo artist with the production team of Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, hitting with her first top-ten single, “I Didn’t Mean To Turn You On,” in 1984. A year later, it became a huge hit for Robert Palmer and, in 2001, for Mariah Carey. She scored again with the team in 1988 on her album Affair, where the title track reached the top ten and the ballad “Everything I Miss At Home” went number one on the Billboard R&B charts. She has recorded famous duets with Alexander O’Neal, “Saturday Love” on her 1985 album “High Priority” and “Never Knew Love Like This” in 1986, off his “Hearsay” album. Both reached #2 on the Billboard R&B US charts and were in the US top 40 and UK charts. The pair reunited in 1997 for a remake of Patti Austin and James Ingram’s “Baby Come To Me”. Cherrelle and her cousin Pebbles had a top 20 US R&B hit in 1991 with the ballad ‘Always’ along with Johnny Gill off Pebbles’ album of the same name. Cherrelle continues to tour and perform across the country.
