toots & the maytals
funky kingston
Jamaican Reggae vocal trio formed by Toots Hibbert, Nathaniel "Jerry" Matthias & Henry "Raleigh" Gordon in 1961 as "The Vikings" and made their first recordings in 1962 for coxsone Dodd. They later changed their name to "The Maytals". Some sources say the band name was finally changed in 1972 to became "Toots and the Maytals" with the suggestion of the producer, Byron Lee, after the band's first international hits but it seems to have been used on some 1960s releases like Sweet And Dandy.
