mach-hommy
the stellar ray theory
Mach-Hommy is a hip hop artist from Newark, New Jersey, by way of Port-au-Prince, Haiti. He has drawn attention for the high prices he charges for his work (between US$300 and $3000) many of which have also been released as highly sought after and expensive limited vinyl editions. His reclusiveness and anonymity (expressed through a Haitian flag bandana draped across his face) also draw attention as well as a long standing affiliation with Griselda Records. Throughout the early-to-late 2010s he cultivated a respectable, cult-like fan base through releasing ("dumping") a large number of projects which peaked in 2017. Mach has worked closely and extensively with Tha God Fahim frequently using the moniker "Dump Gawd". Hommy is credited as executive producer on Fahim's "TGIF" project from 2016, among others, and more recently was credited as such on Your Old Droog's 2019 album "Jewelry" and Big Cheeko's 2022 album "Block Barry White". Mach's debut release "Goon Grizzle" was originally released in 2004 under his own imprint Slizback Entertainment, the album was later re-released for a short time online in 2017. After a car accident in the early 2010s, Mach released "F.Y.I." for free on his Bandcamp page in 2013. The project was an amalgam of a series of EPs he would release in the months leading up to the album. After this project, Mach would focus more on his passion for filmmaking and became a videographer for Westside Gunn and his Griselda Records label. It was only when Gunn realised Mach was an MC that he asked him to start writing again and this would lead to multiple collaborations including the EP "Don't Get Scared Now" featuring Mach-Hommy, Conway The Machine and Westside Gunn released in 2016. In 2016 he self-released the album "HBO (Haitian Body Odor)" with Griselda Records in a limited edition CD run sold only through his Instagram - limited to just 187 copies and costing $300 a piece. The album would eventually be posted to his SoundCloud in 2017. A 4-piece puzzle vinyl edition was also made available at some point through his Bandcamp - pre-empting what would be made much more accessible by Zotanica.com in 2021 through the album's 5-year re-release. After splitting with Griselda, Mach would go on to release a total of 10 projects in 2017 - two of which were with his frequent collaborator Tha God Fahim - these projects included "Dollar Menu" 1 and 2, "Luh Hertz", "The Spook", "Dump Gawd: Hommy Edition" and "Dumpmeister" and featured collaborations with other well-known and respected artists in the underground hip hop space including but not limited to Earl Sweatshirt, Armand Hammer, Hus Kingpin, Your Old Droog, Westside Gunn, Quelle Chris, Knxwledge, The Alchemist, and Evidence. The album "Fête des morts aka Día de los Muertos" would close out the year under the alias "Dumpmeister" which was almost fully produced by Earl Sweatshirt. "The Gospel According To...." (or "The G.A.T...") was also released in 2017 and is considered by many to be his magnum opus. The album was released exclusively on a 10" lathe cut vinyl of which only 28 copies were ever made. The vinyl design is one of a kind and contains two discs - each of which contain three holes which when played create a stunning visual effect. The price was originally what caught people's attention because it was sold on Mach's Bandcamp page for $999 as that was the highest amount it could be sold for on that platform. However when it was later sold on Mach's own website it was listed for $3000 which led many to believe this was the original price. Notable owners of the release include the label head of Nature Sounds, Devin Horwitz, who appeared on Vice TV's "Most Expensivest" with his copy displaying it to the hosts 2 Chainz and Timbaland. A graded copy of the album was sold at an auction held by Goldin in 2025 for $24,400. In 2019, Mach-Hommy would collaborate with DJ Muggs of Cypress Hill to form the duo Kill Em All releasing the albums "Tuez-les tous" and the self-titled "Kill Em All". In an interview with Complex, Muggs described Mach as "one of the greatest talents to ever walk the earth". He would also release "Wap Konn Jòj!" in 2019, an abstract project steeped in Haitian revolutionary themes and cultural pride. In 2021, Mach joined back up with Griselda after a period of tension releasing the album "Pray for Haiti" executive produced by Westside Gunn and recorded in Puerto Rico with Gunn and Camoflauge Monk. The album helped bring wider recognition to Mach-Hommy. Though he continued to release work with Tha God Fahim, Mach's first solo release in three years would come in 2024 with "#RICHAXXHAITIAN" an album built on celebrating Haitian heritage and economic self-determination. In November of that year, Mach would perform his first solo headline show in New York at the Lincoln Center. This was soon followed by what Mach would call his "Three-Peat" shows: three nights in Los Angeles, one night in New York, and ending with a show in Chicago in October of 2025. For each of these shows exclusive merch would be sold including notable collectibles like the 3Peat Supertape cassette aswell as an encased copy of "The Gospel According To..." not for sale. In 2026 Mach would release "5786 AM: Easy Listen" fully produced by Playa Haze featuring collaborations with Blu, Mavi and others.
