Jesse Bonds Weaver Jr. (born June 22, 1962) and known by his stage name Schoolly D, is an American rapper from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was born and raised in West Philadelphia and also spent part of his upbringing in Georgia. In the mid-1980s, Schoolly D collaborated with DJ Code Money, creating music characterized by themes of urban life, violence, and sexual confidence. He appeared in the 1986 documentary "Big Fun in the Big Town." Later in his career, he adopted an Afrocentric style, contributing to the introduction of Afrocentric culture into hip hop alongside artists like KRS-One. Schoolly D has contributed music to several films by director Abel Ferrara, including the songs "P.S.K." and "Saturday Night" from the album "Saturday Night! – The Album." His song "King of New York" was featured in Ferrara's film of the same name, and the title tracks from "Am I Black Enough For You?" and "How a Black Man Feels" were also used in Ferrara’s work. Additionally, the song "Signifying Rapper" from the album "Smoke Some Kill" was used in Ferrara’s film "Bad Lieutenant." However, due to a lawsuit by Led Zeppelin over an uncleared interpolation of their song "Kashmir" in "Signifying Rapper," the track was removed from the film's soundtrack and later releases. Composer Joe Delia invited Schoolly D to co-write and record "The Player" for Ferrara's film "The Blackout," which Delia scored. Schoolly D also composed the score for Ferrara’s film "R Xmas." In 2006, he co-wrote the soundtrack for the independent historical science fiction thriller "Order of the Quest" with Chuck Treece. His album "Funk 'N Pussy," released on Jeff "Met" Thies' Chord Recordings, features guest appearances by Chuck D of Public Enemy, Chuck Chillout, Lady B, and includes a drum and bass remix of the Schoolly D track "Mr. Big Dick" by UK trip hop group The Sneaker Pimps. Schoolly D provided music and occasional narration for the animated series "Aqua Teen Hunger Force" on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim programming block. He appeared as a guest on a first-season episode of "Space Ghost Coast to Coast" and created the song "Sharkian Nights" for the Adult Swim series "12 oz. Mouse." The character Jesse B. Weaver from "The Rudy and Gogo World Famous Cartoon Show" was named after him. In November 2006, Schoolly D and Cartoon Network were sued over the "Aqua Teen Hunger Force" theme music by Terence Yerves, a drummer who claimed to have co-written the theme music with Schoolly D in 1999 while working at Meat Locker Studio. Yerves was aware that the song would be used for a television series but did not approve its use for "Aqua Teen Hunger Force." He filed a copyright claim with the Library of Congress in May 2006, after the series had begun its fourth season. In the lawsuit, Yerves sought \$150,000 for every airing of the series after the lawsuit was filed, requested that all existing DVD copies be impounded, and demanded that the show cease broadcast. On December 30, 2022, Schoolly D released the album "Cause Schoolly D Is Crazy."
