The Soul Investigators (originally known as Calypso King and The Soul Investigators) are the house band for Timmion Records. The band was formed in 1997 in Matinkylä, Espoo, Finland, just outside Helsinki. Their first singles were released in 1998 on their own Jive (2) label, followed by their debut album, Soul Strike!, on New York's Soul Fire label in 2001. Members of the band founded Timmion Records in 2000. The band has accompanied a number of acclaimed neo-soul artists, including Nicole Willis, Ernie Hawks and Bardo Martinez, as well as continuing to release instrumental recordings under their own name.

Calypso King & the Soul Investigators are a Meters/J.B.’s/MG’s-styled instrumental funk / deep funk band from Helsinki, Finland. The band is also known from their supporting work for Nicole Willis in Nicole Willis & The Soul Investigators. All the members played in other bands; guitarist Pete Toikkanen was in a garage rock group called the Paisley, while organist Antti Maattanen, bassist Sami Kantelinen, and drummer Jukka Sarapaa all played in Mood (aka Maor Presto). Forming in 1998, the group issued a couple of 45s before hooking up with Soul Fire Records; after a debut single on Soul Fire in 2000, “Compin’ and Smokin’,” they recorded their debut full-length, 'Soul Strike!' which was released in 2001. The Soul Investigators subsequently recorded for their own Timmion Records label with a newly added horn section, featuring trumpeter Eero Savela, trombonist Erno Haukkala, and saxophonist Lasse Tolvanen.
The album 'Home Cooking' was released in 2002 on the new label. The album has since been re-released under the shorter band name the soul investigators on Mit-Wit Records in 2007.
