American hip-hop duo founded in 1996 in New York City and consisting of members Sticman and M-1. The two focused on militant social justice, self-determination, and Pan-Africanism.
Having met in Tallahassee, Florida, in 1990 while attending FAMU, they stayed in close contact with each other before forming the duo a few years later. Sticman hails from Shadeville, Florida, and M-1 from Brooklyn, New York. Together they lead an organization in Brooklyn called the People's Army. After meeting Lord Jamar a a party, the duo signed with Loud Records, and dead prez was born.

Dead Prez are an underground hip-hop duo which formed in 1996 in New York City, New York, United States, consisting of rapper stic.man and M-1. They have released three albums, "Let's Get Free" (2000), "Revolutionary But Gangsta" (2004), and "Information Age" (2012). The duo has also released several mixtapes. They are known for their sometimes confrontational style, combined with socialist lyrics focused on both militant social justice, and also positivity. The duo maintains an ethical stance against corporate control over the media, especially hip-hop record labels.
